On This Episode
This episode of Spotlight is packed with both personality and wisdom. Coach Jason Ferber gives insight into how he fell in love with the game, why he started coaching, and how his ‘art’ has allowed him to gain over 138,000 Instagram followers.
Coach Ferber emphasizes the importance of highlighting each player’s strengths, along with their weaknesses, when working with each player. He believes that it is important to tell his players what they do well, just as often as he critiques. His coaching style allows his players to remain confident on the field, while making the necessary adjustments that they need in order to succeed.
Coach Ferber attributes a lot of his success to his rich understanding of each player’s language. Over the years, he has learned he needs to develop a deeper relationship with his players so he can understand how to best communicate and coach them. He uses the example of, “staying back,” and explains that if he asked four players what that meant, they would all respond differently.
Staying in love with the game of baseball is very important to player success- whether that be in the form of a game of stickball in New York, playing in games, or coaching his players, Coach Ferber has loved the game from the start.
